Good sentence structures in business essays are components of a good writing style. Sentences in business essays must possess progressive forces that drive the readers to read more. The role of sentence structures in business essay writing is to add variety, strength, flexibility and rhythm. These can only be achieved if your sentences are clear, concise and express well-emphasised thoughts. Achieving all these goals in sentence construction may be challenging and difficult for your business essay.
The first task of an essay writer is to learn how to write good sentence structures for business essays. Sentences function differently for different kinds of essays. In business essays, the role of sentences is to persuade and add interest to the readers. Try to see the examples below:
Example 1: At last, the long recession is over.
Example 2: The long recession is over at last
Example 3: The long recession is over. At last.
Examples 1 and 2 are common sentence structures in business essays. They are both grammatically correct. However, example 1 states exasperation (At last) first before the main idea while example 2 states the main idea first before the exasperation. In writing business essays, you must be keen on what you want to emphasise. Example 1 emphasises the feelings or emotions of the writer while example 2 emphasise objectivity before the feelings or emotions. Meanwhile, example 3 has two sentences. This example is not common in formal essay writing. The second sentence of example 3 is a fragment. Fragments must ideally not be used in formal essay writing. In contrast, you can use fragments in informal essay writing or in speech to highlight an important point. Going back to example 3, the exasperation is emphasised by configuring it into a separate, fragmented sentence.
Formal essay writing uses grammatical sentences. Grammatical sentences are sentences that contain subjects and predicates. You will know if you are going to use formal essay writing or informal essay writing if you are going to evaluate your readers. It is advisable to use formal essay writing if it is presented for scientific purposes, or if your readers are academics. Informal essay writing, on the other hand, is advisable if you want to catch the general readers’ interest.
